How to play Little Tram

Little Tram is a 3D tram driving game that runs in your browser. You drive a tram around a city with 30 stations, picking up and dropping off passengers. Here’s everything you need to know to get started.

Getting started

Press Play on the homepage to start driving immediately. No download or account needed. You’ll be placed on a tram at a station and can start moving right away. Choose a route from the route panel or just explore freely.

Desktop controls

On desktop, you drive with the keyboard. Here are the essential controls:

Throttle and braking
Use the up and down arrow keys to accelerate and brake. The throttle has multiple notches — tap repeatedly to increase power, or hold to brake harder.
Doors
Open the left doors with [ and the right doors with ]. Doors close automatically after passengers have boarded and alighted, or you can close them manually.
Bell and horn
Ring the bell with Space to warn pedestrians at crossings. Use H for the horn.
Track points
At junctions, use the left and right arrow keys to set the points before you reach them.
Camera
Press R to rotate the camera in 90° increments. Shift+R rotates in reverse.
PA announcements
Use the number keys 0–5 and 9 for different announcements: next stop, line ID, ready to depart, stand clear of doors, and more.

Mobile controls

On phones and tablets, on-screen touch controls appear automatically. You get buttons for throttle, braking, doors, bell, and track switching. The layout adapts to your screen size.

Game modes

There are two ways to play:

Joyride
Drive freely with no pressure. Explore the network, learn the controls, visit all 30 stations, and just enjoy the ride. There’s no clock and no penalties.
Timetable
You’re given a schedule to keep. Depart each station on time, manage your speed between stops, and try to stay punctual across the entire route. Arriving early or late affects your score.

Stations and routes

The city has 30 stations connected by tram lines. Each route follows a specific path through the network. At interchange stations, you can switch between lines. The route panel shows your current route, upcoming stops, and progress.

Passengers

Passengers wait at stations and board when you open the correct doors. More passengers board at busier stations. Your tram has a maximum capacity that depends on how many carriages you’re running — from a single car up to a three-carriage set.

Customising your tram

Open the settings panel to change your tram’s colour and choose how many carriages to run. You can also toggle AI trams on or off and adjust how busy the city is. More carriages means more passenger capacity but a longer tram to manage at platforms.

Achievements

There are 29 achievements to unlock across five categories: delivering passengers, driving skill, completing routes, exploring the network, and professional driving. They range from easy — like delivering your first passenger — to legendary — like completing a full circuit without any collisions.

Create a free account to save your achievement progress across devices. You can view all achievements and your progress on the achievements page.

Tips for new drivers

  • Start in Joyride mode to learn the controls without any time pressure.
  • Brake early. Trams are heavy and take longer to stop than you expect.
  • Ring your bell at crossings — it’s not just for fun, it warns pedestrians.
  • Set your track points before you reach a junction, not at the last second.
  • In Timetable mode, departing on time matters more than arriving early. Don’t rush between stations.
  • Open the map to get an overview of the network and plan your route.
